Join SMPS Kansas City for the popular national program: Business Development (BD) Live! An entertaining, insightful and interactive discussion on Business Development best practices. The event offers the opportunity to watch several different approaches to client interaction, live, with commentary of all exchanges at the end.

“BD Live!” will feature live interview sessions with an Owner who will interact one-on-one with three Business Development professionals, each representing a different branch of the A/E/C industry.  Each interaction will be presented for 5-7 minutes, with time at the conclusion of the program  for the moderator, client and BD professional to provide feedback and impressions of the interaction and discuss what worked, what didn’t, and why.  The audience will also be given the opportunity to ask questions.

Learning Objectives:

  • Ideas and strategies for improved business development practices
  • Gain valuable insight regarding BD best practices in the eyes of a client
  • Exposure to a variety of approaches to client engagement

Who should attend: A/E/C business developers, principals, marketers, project managers, and technical staff – anyone who has contact with existing and/or potential clients.

About the Presenters:

Greg Johnson
The director of business development for Henderson Building Solutions, Greg Johnson manages our client relationships. He is perfectly suited for the role, bringing 20 years of experience working for construction companies, electrical suppliers, and an energy service company before joining our team in 2016. Thanks to his background in the construction industry, Greg knows what it takes to help clients navigate the building process. His ability to get to the heart of understanding our clients’ needs equips our team to deliver the best solution through innovative engineering, commissioning, or engineer-lead design build construction services. Greg knows better than anyone how much the work performed by Henderson Building Solutions positively affects lives every day. Whether it’s someone recuperating in a hospital or a child going to school, Greg’s favorite part of the job is that he gets to be a part of something extraordinary: helping people. Outside of the office, Greg loves to golf — he wouldn’t be in sales if he didn’t — and loves to hang out with his family. It’s quite the game changer when you have employees like Greg who are excited about the work they do, and we’re even more excited to have him on board with us.

Mary Moore
As Director of Marketing and Business Development, Ms. Moore works to develop and execute a marketing, communications and business development strategy to gain exposure and drive results for the firm. Ms. Moore spearheads the business development department where she interfaces directly with clients and industry partners to strategically identify opportunities to impact the firms bottom line.

Since joining Pulse Design Group in 2015, Ms. Moore has helped the company gain exposure and traction in the marketplace, add a robust list of new clients to its portfolio, surpass revenue goals consistently, implement a growth and strategic plan for the future, develop an onboarding training program for new recruits, and expand the firm’s philanthropic reach in the community.

Stacy Stout
With over 21 years of experience, Stacy’s proven expertise in marketing and branding has earned her the respect of the A/E/C community, both on a local and national level, making her an in-demand speaker and facilitator at industry events across the country. She is a Fellow in the Society for Marketing Professional Services (FSMPS), a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM), was named Marketer of the Year in 2011, and in 2016 received the Leonardo Award, the highest recognition given by SMPS Colorado. Stacy earned her Bachelor of Science degree in International Business from the University of Colorado Denver and is a Director-at Large on the SMPS National Board.

Barry Sutherland
Based in Kansas City, Barry is primarily responsible for new business development, client services and marketing with a focus on fostering relationships with Healthcare, Education, Advanced Technology & Manufacturing, and other clients for McCarthy’s Central Region. He started off managing marketing for McCarthy's Advanced Technology & Manufacturing business development team for three years, before transitioning to start the office and lead business development efforts in Kansas City. Barry has been an active member of SMPS since joining the industry in 2008, having served as chapter president and other roles for the St. Louis chapter, a variety of roles for the Kansas City chapter, emcee of the 2011 Build Business Gala, and 2015 Build Business conference co-chair. In addition, he also serves on the boards of Sunflower House and the Olathe Chamber of Commerce, president of the Kansas City chapter of the Design-Build Institute of America, co-chair of the Kansas City Area Healthcare Engineer’s Social Committee, a planning commissioner for the City of Olathe, and an active member with Blue Valley Baptist Church. A resident of Olathe, when not working, Barry spends time with his wife of 12 years, Christa, and his children, Evan, 9, and Molly, 6.
